The project really began in August 2006 when a friend invited me to Gurston Down for the day. I was entranced by the high powered single seater racing cars but also noticed that road going production cars were allowed to compete. I had owned and enjoyed driving my 1994 Mr2 for around 4 years and vowed that one day I would return to Gurston Down as a competitor. The next 10 months were spent preparing the mr2 and purchasing the all important Personal safety equipment. I also obtained my MSA licence and membership to the BARC SW region, the club that operates Gurston down. Next I booked a day at the Gurston Down speed hill climb school, this was my first run at the hill! The school is brilliant and I highly recommend the experience. After a season and a half of mainly 2nd in class finish's I decided I needed something a bit quicker and that was always going to mean turbo charged :-) The Impreza RA was a natural choice, a race prepared car straight out of the Scooby factory. 260BHP stock, low ratio close ratio box, 4WD, lighter build, quick rack, stronger engine, bigger turbo, born to sprint! I bought the car on a Thursday in July and entered it in competition the next Sunday. It took first in class :-) After some geometry tweeks and a tyre change to Toyo Proxes R888's the car returned to Gurston for a second time, taking a class win and the Road Going Production class record.
